What is Proposition 65?

Proposition 65, officially known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, was enacted by California voters to address growing concerns about exposure to toxic chemicals.

This California law requires the state to maintain and update a list of chemicals known to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity. As of now, the list includes over 900 substances.

Proposition 65 does not ban or restrict the sale of products containing these chemicals. Instead, it requires businesses to provide clear warnings so that consumers can make informed decisions about their potential exposure.

The program is administered by the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA).
